Pink Blossoms

Pink Blossoms - Oil on 10" x 8" Panel - Mom's memorial was on Saturday. I was so tired yesterday that I felt like a limp rag doll. I miss Mom terribly, but I realize that life is half death too. Today after a morning of completing tasks for Mom's will I painted. Looking out my studio window is this old crab apple tree, just starting to bloom. I picked a branch and painted a small painting of this new life. For me everything is very raw and real. I both love and hate where I'm at. But, as Mary Lynn would say about life that everything changes!

A Birch's Life

A Birch's Life - Oil on 18" x 36" Museum Wrapped Canvas - This painting was painted plein air up north at the cabin in Grand Rapids, MN. This is out my back door. Two beautiful days with many new friends that visited me as I painted. A chipmunk, a zooming hummingbird, red wing black bird and a huge bumble bee. They were all trying to figure out who I was foe or friend. The only one that became a close friend was the chipmunk, he just parked himself at my feet and looked up at me. Such is the life of the plein air painter:)

This is a larger painting 18 x 36 and is on museum wrapped canvas.

Audrey's Red Pillow

Audrey's Red Pillow - Oil on 40" x 30" Museum Wrapped Canvas - This is a large painting of one of my favorite flowers the lilac. I added my Mom's red pillow from her home. I have so many things of my Mom's since she has passed that I seem to find a place for them in my paintings. This painting is tighter than most of my paintings, but I kept the lilac's and the right side of the painting loose. A lot of chroma for me too, but it was a challenge and a fun painting at the same time.

Love a Lemon

Love a Lemon - Oil on 20" x 16" Raymar Linen Panel - I have been trying to paint all of the spring flowers. They come and go overnight with our warm weather. I know I have to let it go or I will drive myself crazy! This painting was going to be about the flowers, but it turned out to be about the fruit and metal containers! It is what happens when you start to paint.... it is all about what gets the artists interest. Tomorrow is another day and another flower! Go Spring!

China Man in Yellow - Oil on 20" x 16" Raymar Linen Panel - So much rain in Minnesota! So more still life's! Picked flowers, my Mom's yellow china figure and bowl, copper and reflections. I love painting my Mom's old things, she loved them and had her whole room filled with them. I feel somewhat close to her again when I paint the things that she love so much.

Pink Peonies, Blue Flowered Vase & Copper - Oil on 10" x 10" Raymar Linen Panel - What a long title! I have had this blue vase and have wanted to use it in a painting. I love the blue, so much fun to have a transparent color that is so luscious! This is the last of the peonies:( Up to the cabin this weekend and hopefully I will be able to get outside and paint. We really want some sun!

Dinner in the Lily Ponds - Oil on 24" x 24" Museum Wrapped Canvas - This painting was started on my deck at the cabin in Grand Rapids, Mn. The lily ponds are so beautiful... how lucky is this moose?
There had been so many storms with rain and strong winds (tornados), that I could not go out and paint.

Last Day - Oil on 8" x 10" Raymar Linen Panel - This was painted up at the cabin on the path to the dock! So, beautiful a small bunch of daisy's.... with just one blossom left. As I painted this my friend and artist Susan Novak was painting me in her painting from the top of the hill by the cabin.
I have been so busy getting paintings finished for competitions that I have forgotten how wonderful it is to paint outside.

Three Generations

Three Generations - Oil on 24" x 18" Panel - This painting is very different style and feel from most of my paintings... more like a mural of the Minnesota State Fair Midway. I could see this on a wall somewhere. I took this photo years ago of the Midway at the fair and have been wanting to paint it for years. I loved it because it looked like Grandfather, father and son enjoying the Great Minnesota State Fair.

Hanging Plum

Hanging Plum - Oil on 16" x 20" Panel - This was painted in my studio using a north light. It is almost like painting outside due to the changing of light as the day goes on. This was painted on an Inner Glow panel which is a smooth board. I hung the branch on my wall and added an Asian wall hanging on the right which I think made a different feel and composition to the painting.
